About the Current

The Cenla Current is an online newspaper serving the Central Louisiana region. The goal is to bring grassroots journalism to our region, improve access to news and news reporting, and provide an alternative to existing media.

Why call is a Newspaper?

Blogs tend to focus on opinion peices, and while we feel those are extremely important, there is still a need in our region for pure journalism. And, it’s something that is available in limited quantity and quality locally.

Help us rectify this by volunteering to reprt for the Current.

The name ‘Current’ was chosen for two reasons. Current was the name of the first print newspaper in the world. We are the first purely online newspaper in Cenla, so the name seemed to fit. And of course, we can all relate to the various rivers and bayous that connect our neighborhoods and communities — we hope like those currents, we can provide a good flow of information for all of Cenla.
